The History of Ideal Teddy Bears |
|
It was Morris Michtom who invented the teddy bear. Michtom, along with his wife Rose, are the founders of The Ideal Novelty and Toy Company. Although the teddy bear was first created in 1903, the company was founded in 1907. Decades later, the company officially changed it's name to the Ideal Toy Corporation.
Not only have some of the world's most famous teddy bears been created by the Ideal Toy Company, they have manufactured some of the world's most recognized toys and games as well. The Howdy Doody doll, Shirley Temple doll, Lamb Chop puppet, Magic 8 Ball, KerPlunk, and Mouse Trap are just a few of the toys and games created by Ideal.
Some popular bears made by Ideal were the first production of Smokey Bear, and the 75th Ideal Anniversary bear, known as The Original Ideal Teddy Bar. Ideal was sold CBS Toys in 1982 by Mark Michtom, the grandson of Morris.
